The World Environment Day was observed at the Adarsha Vidyalaya, Dhumamara, on the outskirts of Balangir town on Monday.
District Collector Ashis Thakre stressed the need to protect the mother earth from further ecological degradation. “We have to hand over the mother earth in an ecologically better position to the future generation,” Thakre observed, and sought cooperation of all for protection of the environment and the mother earth.
Among others, DFO Rashmi Ranjan Naik, ACF Goutam Naik, honorary wildlife warden Sudhir Kumar Mishra, Balangir range officer BC Roul and Principal of Adarsha Vidyalaya Patherchpa Khymanidihi Jhankar spoke on different aspects of ecological crisis and sought the cooperation of all to make the environment a better one.
DFO Naik planted a Neem tree there in the presence of district Collector Ashis Thakre. Later school students planted trees in the school campus.
On the occasion, seven persons from different parts of the district were honoured with certificate and cash prize of `5,000 by the district Collector for their contribution to preserve forest and environment.
