Elephant Day observed in Balangir

Elephant Day was observed on Friday at Bandhapada in Kultapada panchyat near
the Balangir-Sonepur district border in Deogaon block. The meeting was
organised by Balangir Forest Ranger BC Roul, The Pioneer Balangir Correspondent
Sudhir Mishra spoke on the need to save forest and save elephant with
villagers’ cooperation. Villagers complained how forest officials do not
respond to their demanding for action against people who destroy forest. The
villagers also alleged that they are yet to receive compensation for crop
damage caused by elephants due to apathy of revenue officials. The villagers
were advised to attend the Collector’s grievance meeting at the earliest to
sort out the issue as all concerned officials would be present there.
