MAOISTS PROTEST SUKTEL DAM IN BALANGIR

After a brief lull, the Maoists belonging to Balangir-Bargarh -Mahasmund Division of CPI (Maoist) once again tried to assert their presence in Balangir district.
They pasted posters in Chancherbhata of Khprakhol block and in Khuntpali in Balangir Sadar block, demanding a halt to construction of Lower Suktel dam project in Balangir district and Pujaripali dam project in Bargarh district.
The Balangir-Bargarh Mahasamund division urged the people to support to a bandh on May 10 as per the poster.
However, there was no response to the bandh call in the district on Tuesday. Their other demands include save Gandhmardarn, stop displacement, stop construction of large dams, stop acquiring the land of farmers, discard big companies and protect forest and environment.
“The police seized all the posters and are looking into it,” said Balangir SP Deepak Kumar.
