Members of the Zilla Adivasi Kalyan Sangha led by
Barjakishore Singh Bhoi, Niranjan Bisi and others on Tuesday threatened to
gherao the Odisha Assembly if their demands for implementation of the ORV Act
for availing quota in the admission to medical colleges and action against the
fake caste certificate holders are not met.
The tribals who held a meeting before the
Collectroate here submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister Naveen Pattnaik
through the district Collector.
While welcoming the decision of the Government to
increase the percentage of seat earmarked for Schedule Tribe (ST) from 12 per
cent to 22.5 per cent in higher education, the memorandum asked for similar
facility in medical colleges.
“We demand suitable order to the Health and Family
Welfare Department to implement the reservation of 22.5 per cent in medical
colleges,” said Adivasi KalyanSangha Niranjan general secretary Bisi.
While supporting the dharna staged by members of
SC/ST MLAs in the Assembly recently, Bisi, however, urged them not to agree to
proposals for extension of same facility for castes like Kuli, Dora and Kondra
Dora as the matter is sub judice in different high courts and the Supreme
Court.
The said that non ST persons possessing the
title Dora, who are recognised as SEBC by the Government of Odisha,
fraudulently obtained caste certificate of Kondra Dora (ST) and demanded that
their certificates be cancelled. They also said similar action against the Kuli
caste people who obtained ST certificate by fraud.
The RDC Northern Division Sambalpur who is the head
of a State level scrutiny committee has not disposed of a single fake tribal
caste certificate case in a year. Hence, action should be initiated against the
RDC Sambalpur, the memorandum said.
