Members of the Tangiaa Jam Committee (Stop the Axe) on Tuesday staged a demonstration before the district Collectorate here and other places in the district demanding stopping of cutting of trees and preservation of forests.

President of the Tangia Jam Committee Gopal Hota said, “Since last seven years, we are carrying out such awareness campaign among the masses against destroying forests. On the first day of every month, we urge people not to use Tangia (axe) for the sake of forest protection. And on the New Year day, we guard the forests in different villages and ensure that no one uses axe to cut trees.”
In future, people would be further sensitised about protection and conservation of forests, he said.
