The Odisha Jana Sammuksha
(OJS) on Wednesday threatened to hold an economic blockade in the State if the
Khurda-Balangir railway line is not completed early. All the goods transported
from the State would be blocked, announced president of the State unit of the
Republican Party of India (RPI) Seikh Abdul Wali.
He
was addressing RPI activists while staging Rail Roko here protesting against
the apathy of both State and Central Governments towards the Khurda-Balangir
rail line project.
Members
of the Odisha Jana Sammuksha (which includes the RPI) led Wali, OJS
vice-president Ranjubala Nayak and president of Paschimanchal Bikash Party
Laxman Kumar Bhoi detained the Lokmanya Tilak Express at the Balangir station
for half an hour. Wali said, “In the last 17years, hardly 17 kilometers of this
railway line has been constructed.
The
Odisha Government is not acquiring land for the project and the Centre is not
providing adequate funds for it.”
