Balangir Citizens' Committee protests against Lokpal Bill

Members of the Balangir Citizens’ Committee led by its president Laxmikanta Mohapatra and secretary Bhavani Shankar Satpathy on Tuesday staged a demonstration before the Collector’s office opposing the Lokpal Bill introduced by the Government in the Parliament.

The Lokpal Bill introduced by the Government was structurally weak and would not benefit the common man, the agitators alleged. The Bill which is currently before the standing committee should be revoked, redrafted and then re-introduced in the Parliament, they demanded.

The agitators said the Jan Lokpal Bill drafted by the Anna Hazare team should be accepted and introduced in the Parliament.

The Citizens’ Committee members submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister through the district administration.
