A hardcore Maoist, Sanyasi Sagaria, surrendered
before Balangir SP Ashis Singh and CRPF 189 Battalion in-charge Jitendra Kumar
here on Friday.
Sanyasi, a resident of Nagphenea village under
Tureikela police station, was forced to join the Maoist organisation in 2005 by
Maoist cadre Sanjeeb. He worked in Bargarh-Balangir-Mahas Amund division and
was operating in Tureikela, Lathore and Khaprakhol Police station area. He was
collecting information on contractors, labour sardars and movement of security
forces, said Singh at a Press meet here.
The SP said Sanyasi had been handling a 12-bore gun
and, during his stay in the party, he had met some senior party cadres of the
division. He left the party due to mental and physical harassment meted out to
him by senior cadres, said Singh. He was also involved in the recent exchange
of fire with security forces in Chandali Reserve Forest on August 13, Singh
informed, adding “Sanyasi will get all the benefits as per the Government
guidelines.”
However, Sanyasi didn’t reply to mediapersons who
wanted to know how he became a Maoist and how he was being tortured in the
Maoist camp.
