Carcasses of elephant, calf found in Balangir

Balangir: Carcasses of a female elephant and its calf were found at a paddy field near Bakati village in Balangir district on Thursday. Being informed by locals, forest officials rushed to the spot and seized the carcasses for postmortem. Preliminary investigation indicated that the jumbos were suffering from anthrax. However the exact cause of the death could only be ascertained after autopsy, said Divisional Forest Officer Rashmi Ranjan Nayak.
