B’NGIR TRIBALS DEMAND LAND BACK FROM GRAPHITE FIRMS

Several tribals of
Dudukamal village under Belpada block in Balangir district have demanded return
of their land captured by many graphite companies.At a meeting held at the
village on Sunday, the tribals said, “We want our land back and an end to
mining activity and illegal operations in these lands”.The graphite companies
like L&Co Graphite, GR Graphite Diamond Graphite have been mining graphite in
the area for the past 30 years and a big hole of 200 to 300 feet has been
created in the land due to mining, lamented a villager.
“We have been displaced
three times. A company of Chhattisgarh has kept 250 acres land of 35 tribals of
Dudukamal,” alleged another tribal at the meeting.Tribal leader Basant Majhi
presided over the meeting in the presence of Balangir Zilla Adivasi Kalyan
Sagha Secretary Niranajan Bisi, President Braja Kishore Singh Bhoi.
