Even as
the Central schools are held high as torture and harassment-free institutions,
a torture complaint lodged by a former student of the Balangir Kendriya
Vidyalaya 2 against a teacher has worried many parents.
According
to the petition submitted to the district Collector’s grievances cell by
Jagyaseni Das, her daughter Saijyoti Das had been harassed and tortured by
teacher Ashok Sarbhaga while she was studying in Class IX in 2014. Saijyoti had
been in the school since 2004.
The
teacher used to call her daughter and one of her friends to his quarter on
holidays. He then would ask her daughter to sit at a computer and gossip with
other one in adjacent room, Jagyaseni mentioned in complaint.
She
also mentioned that the teacher would give a lot of articles to her classmate
and ask her to keep them in Saijyoti’s room. “When I protested, the teacher
became furious and threatened to spoil my daughter’s life. The gift of the
teacher and mobile recording had been returned to the Principal,” the mother
stated in the petition.
After
this, the teacher instructed Saijyoti’s classmates not to talk to her. Due to
metal torture meted out to my daughter by the teacher, she was forced to stay
detained in her Class XI, and under compelling circumstances we brought her
transfer certificate to get admission in the Government Women’s College,
Bolangir, added the petitioner.
The
teacher, Ashok Sarbhaga, denied the allegations. “I shall conduct an inquiry
into the matter and take further steps,” said Balangir district Collector M
Muthukumar.
