ORIENTATION CAMP ON FOREST FIRE HELD IN BALANGIR

To remain alert and be prepared to fight forest fire a one-day orientation camp of forest guards, foresters and VSS members of Hari Shankar forest range, lathor forest range and Patnagarh forest range was organised at Hari Shankar on Wednesday.

“We are getting daily input from satellite from Bhubaneswar office and fire dousing squad is immediately pressed into service when an incident occurs,” said a forest official here.

Among others, DFO Rashmi Ranjan Naik, scribe Sudhir Mishra, ACF NK Jaysingh, Patnagarh range officer Banmali Sahu and Harishankar range officer Dinabandhu Meher spoke on different aspects of forest fire and how to tackle it. They sought the cooperation of people to tackle fire properly.

Fire officials of Khaprakhol demonstrated as to how to extinguish fire.

VSS members stressed on better cooperation from forest officials, re-organisation of VSS in some places, more publicity on how to tackle forest fire in village area  and involvement of local youths. So far 126 forest fire incidents have been reported in Balangir district, said forest sources.

A divisional level training of front line staff on control and prevention of forest fire held at Bolangir today. Attended by VSS members of Bolangir, Saintala, Deo gaon and of Loisingha forest Range ,forest guards, forester and Ranger officer of Bolangir, Loisingha Saintala and Deo gaon range, the interactive session deliberated on how to PREVENT the occurrence of forest fire and how to fight it.

The government has attached topmost priority to tackle forest fire and it is being monitored daily through input from satellite. He called upon forest official/ to  remain alert and respond quickly in the event of fire incident  opined DFO Bolangir Sri Rashmi Ranjan Naik. 

The Vana Surakshya members participating in the discussion demanded creation of more fire line area ,more manpower to tackle forest fire, creation of more water bodies inside and near the forest to provide water to animals and douse fore,more equipment and a designated official to deal with forest fire, better sensitization of Mahua collectors to dissuade them from leaving unattended the fire set to collect  mahul and to check the alleged setting up fire by Munshi of Kendu Leaf department. 

 

Forest fire causes extensive damage to topsoil layer of earth which has lot of eco friendly insect. Once that is damaged,  soil fertility is lost and top soil is also washed way in rain causing  more flood .More over many precious useful herbs which keep villagers healthy are also lost . All out effort should to made to check occurrence of forest fire ,says Pioneer Bolangir correspondent and Honorary wildlife warden Sri Sudhir Mishra.

District Fire Officer Abani Swain displayed the newly arrived fire suits with  that a person  can fight forest fire for one hour.Healso  gave the number of fire Officer located at black level and told them to contact in the event of fire.

Even though the results of Zilla Parisad candidates have not been announced officially, the Congress, going by unofficial announcement of results, alleged that its candidate lost the Zone 23 seat in Balangir district due to manipulation of the official machinery.

Congress ZP election coordinator for Balangir and Subarnapur districts Samarendra Mishra made this allegation at a Press conference here on Saturda.

“Election to Zone 23 was held yesterday. The Congress candidate was ahead of others and won the seat. But astonishingly, we heard that the BJD candidate has won,” informed Mishra.

He alleged that officials were pressurised to manipulate the results and demanded a recounting of votes there.

Mishra informed that he has submitted avpetition to the State Election Commission and district administration in this regard.

“We were leading by180 votes. It is not understood what magic made the BJD candidate win by 56 votes,” wanted to know Saroj Ratha, the Congress candidate.

NGT ORDERS VERIFICATION OF B’NGIR POULTRY FARM

The Principal Bench of National Green Tribunal (NBT) New Delhi has ordered for a joint verification of the OVR poultry farm at Chhatamakhana on NH-26 by a joint team of the Government of Odisha and the Odisha

State Pollution Control Board (OPSCB).

The verification would be done to ascertain whether the farm has a valid licence and is following the guidelines issued by the OPSCB and the team would submit its report within two months, said lawyer Bijaya Kumar Babu at a Press conference here on Saturday.

“I had filed a case in the NGT on the pollution caused by OVR poultry farm. Acting on my petition, the tribunal has issued notice to the Balangir district Collector, the OPSCB Chairman and the Animal Resource Department Director, Babu said. 

“After receiving then NGT notice, all respondents filed their statements through their legal counsels. However, the report filed by Government officials was not in conformity with the information that I had acquired by RTI,” he said further.

“I submitted my report I got through RTI to the NGT and showed how Government officials filed an incorrect report.

After going through the report, the NGT ordered for a joint inspection of the poultry farm, said Babu.
