VSS MEMBERS JOIN FOREST FIRE MEET

A divisional level training of frontline staff on control and prevention of forest fire was held at Balangir recently. It was attended by VSS members of Balangir, Saintala, Deogaon and Loisingha forest ranges, and the forest guards, foresters and ranger officers.
The interactive session deliberated on how to prevent forest fire and fight it.
The Government has attached topmost priority to tackle forest fire and it is being monitored daily through input from satellite, said DFO Balangir Rashmi Ranjan Naik. He called upon everybody to remain alert and respond quickly in the event of fire incident in forests.
The VSS members, participating in the discussion, demanded creation of more fire line areas, manpower, water bodies inside and near the forests, fire fighting equipment, besides a designated official to deal with forest fire incidents. They also stressed on better sensitisation of Mahua collectors.
District Fire Officer Abani Swain displayed the newly arrived fire suits wearing which a person can fight forest fire for an hour.
