Bolangir ;It is a
common to find ,villagers in rural area suffer water crisis as water source
dries up after few months of rainy season in Bolangir ,as the district has non
perennial and rain fed river, not to speak of rivulet.
However,the trickle of
flow of water in the rivulet could increase the availability of water for
villagers, with just a makeshift check dam with sand bags ,which is
locally called Boribandhan, ensures better agricultural production and water
security for next three months.
There was a check dam
in our Podhpali village over Nibruti jore, which was damaged due in the heavy
rainfall of 2019.We used to get adequate water when the check dam was
constructed .After its collapse ,we faced water scarcity.
Members from Reliance
foundation here explained about the concept of,Mo Bagichha ,the nutrition
garden scheme and urged to take up it.However the our villagers expresses
inability to take in view of less water availability in Nibruti jore says Daman
Bagarti
Along with villagers
,visiting members visited the dryjore (rivulet) and suggested to
construct a Bori Bandhan to end the water woes for forthcoming next monthsWe
the villagers,SHG members and others after discussion, decided to constructed
this Bori Bandhan on 21st December last, says Bagarti further.
Just one day
after of construction of this Bori Bandhan ,there was three feet of water which
helped us to irrigate our crop .As a result of this makeshift check dam ,we are
able to Rabi crop, vegetable cultivation in around 40acres and earning money by
selling it,says Sarbeshwar Biswal a villager
The villagers
contribution of shramdan is applicable. it has demonstrated that a trickle flow
of water even on dry rivulet could also ensures water security and prosperity
for villagers, points out a local here.
