SUKTEL VILLAGERS DEMAND DUE COMPENSATION

PNS | BALANGIR | in Bhubaneswar
Villagers of the Lower
Suktel Irrigation Project area at Khuntpali, Koindapali, Pardhiaapali,
KagsaBhal and Barpudgia on Thursday staged a road blockade near Barpudgia on
the Balangir-Patnagarh road in different phases for nearly three hours, as a
result of which vehicular movement was hit badly. The agitating villagers
demanded implementation of the Land Acquisition Act of 2013 and payment of
compensation to them as per the Act.
They withdrew the Rasta
Roko after an hour-long discussion with Balangir Sub-Collector Bimal Prasad
Mohanty, SDPO Narayan Naik and Additional SP B Yugal Kishore. The villagers had
also staged a daylong Rasta Roko on Wednesday. In another development, in view
of the Water Resources Secretary Pradeep Jena’s visit to Balangir on Thursday
and his expected talks with the project-affected villagers, police detained
around 20 people before releasing them later.

Malnutrition high among kids going to Anganwadi hubs’: news in The Orissa Post dated 28thJanuary 2015
‘Malnutrition high among kids going to Anganwadi hubs’
============================== ==============
Post News Network
Bolangir, Jan 27: Even as the government is striving to improve the nutritional level of children through various measures, including Anganwadi centres, an assessment of the status of malnutrition among Anganwadi going children in 30 gram panchayats of six tribal-dominated districts — Balangir, Nuapada, Sambalpur, Mayurbhanj, Koraput and Sundargarh — of Orissa by Voice for Child Rights Odisha (VCRO), a state-level civil society alliance working to protect and promote child rights with the support of network partners, has revealed a different picture.
As per VCRO’s findings, malnourishment stands at 28.5 per cent among children in the 1-2 years category, followed by 25.7 per cent in the 2-3 years category. The assessment also found malnutrition among 19.1 per cent, 15.7 per cent and 11 per cent of children among the 4-5 years, 3-4 years and less than 1 year categories. It was found that 13.2 per cent of eligible children are out of the Anganwadi net which is a cause for major worry. After 40 years of implementation of the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) scheme, its benefits still haven’t reached all children.
As per the survey, 28 per cent of the enrolled malnourished children are not attending Anganwadi regularly, and 40 per cent are under severely malnourished category in January to March 2014 quarter. This reduced to 24 per cent during the last quarter of assessment, October to December 2014. However, the prevalence of malnourishment among the 1-2 years
category has remained dominant in all quarters. Nutrition supplements at Anganwadi hubs have not been able to check malnutrition as the number of children under ‘yellow category’ has increased. In all, 53 per cent of children reportedly did not receive any additional nutrition in the first quarter. This has increased to 60 per cent by the end of the fourth quarter.

Migrant woman/children observed Independence Day in brick kiln of Greater Bhubneshwar
============================== =====================
Bolangir ;For the first time, two migrant working women, hoisted the National Tricolour flag on in a brick kiln at Balianta ,near Bhubneshwar on Sunday and migrant children sang National song and teaching learning materials like slates, notebook and other items were given to them, by member of the Zilla Parishad of the Balianta block, Krishna Chandra Jena on this occasion.
The event was observed at one of the Child Care & Learning Centres (CCLC) out of the 20 CCLCs run by Aide et Action in the Greater Bhubaneswar region for the children of migrant workers, to provide them safe, healthy and a learning environment at a worksite situation. The main objective behind celebrating the day by and with the migrant kids was to impart knowledge to them about the importance of the day in the history of India and also to create an opportunity for their enjoyment and bring smiles on the face of many,Says SarojBarik of Aide et Action.Bhubneshwar.
These migrant children while migrating to brick kilns ,other parts of the State and the country miss out on their education, their identity thus becoming an invisible and undocumented part of the society. It is to make these children visible and to make them access their rights, Migration Information Resource Center (MIRC,) Aide et Action planned to organize the event so as to let children be part of the celebration and feel their importance within the society, Barik Says further.
