FOREST DAY OBSERVED AT BALANGIR DISTRICT

The World Forest Day was observed here on Tuesday. DFO Rashmi Ranjan Naik, ACF Goutam Naik, Honorary Wildlife Warden and Correspondent of The Pioneer Sudhir Mishra, ACF NK Jaysingh and others spoke on the importance of forests and stressed on the need of conservation of forests for betterment of wildlife, ecology and human beings.
Thanks to the united efforts of forest staffs, forest fire has been effectively put out this year, observed Sudhir Mishra. VSS members interacted with the officials and spoke about the steps taken by them for preservation and protection of forests.
The Karuanjhar High School and the Phulkimunda School were given certificates and cash awards for their efforts for protection of forests and environment.

observed at Bolangir today. Divisional Forest Officer(DFO) Bolangir Sri Rashmi
Ranjan Naik, ACF Goutam Naik, Honorary Wildlife Warden Bolangir and
Correspondent of The Pioneer at Bolangir,sri Sudhir Mishra, ACF N.K.Jaysingh and
others spoke on the necessity of importance of forest and stressed on the need
conservation of forest for betterment of wildlife and human being and
ecology. Thanks to the united
effort of all forest staffs ,forest fire has been effectively tackled in
the district this year till today observed sri Sudhir Mishra.VSS members interacted
with the official and spoke about the steps taken by them in preservation and protection
of forest .On this occasion two schools Karuanjhar High school and Phulkimunda
School were given certificate and cash award for their effort on protection of
forest and environment. The meeting was

Road widening and felling down of trees in Bolangir--By Sudhir Mishra/Bolangir

Roads are being widened in Bolangir district and huge roadsides tress which are locally useful and beneficial and above fifty years or even more old are cut .there is no activity in sight to plant tress on the roadside. plantation of tress and survival of it is a new challenging task for variety of reasons including irregular and inadequate rainfall and lack of strong commitment of people to save it .And it would take another a minimum 20 years to grow a good tall tree .InBolangir district,mostly, Neem,Jamun,Mahul and other useful tress were there,which was cut for road widening .This would have serious consequences on livelihoods of local poor and their health ,ground water and environment.( more detail -to be posted later on.)

MEET ON FOREST FIRE PREVENTION HELD

A one-day workshop on how to prevent forest fire was held at Bongomunda in Balangir district on Sunday. Assistant Conservator of Forests Goutam Naik explained the cause of forest fire and how to deal with it.
DFO Rashmi Ranjan Naik highlighted how seriously the Government is taking the forest fire issue and how it is being monitored by satellite and information sent to the ground level. Naik expressed displeasure over the poor performance of ground staff and told them to improve their performance.
Balangir Pioneer correspondent and Honorary Wildlife Warden Sudhir Mishra spoke on the disastrous consequences of forest fire and stressed the need to prevent it.
VSS members and others present suggested holding sensitisation meeting with villagers by January, supply special shoes to wear during forest fire fighting, protective glasses, a kit bag containing emergency medicine and water. Among others, Bongomunda, Muribahal and Kantabanji Range Officers were present.

To remain alert and be prepared to fight forest fire a one-day
orientation camp of forest guards, foresters and VSS members of Hari Shankar
forest range, lathor forest range and Patnagarh forest range was organised at
Hari Shankar on Wednesday.
“We are getting daily input from satellite from Bhubaneswar office
and fire dousing squad is immediately pressed into service when an incident
occurs,” said a forest official here.
Among others, DFO Rashmi Ranjan Naik, scribe Sudhir Mishra, ACF NK
Jaysingh, Patnagarh range officer Banmali Sahu and Harishankar range officer
Dinabandhu Meher spoke on different aspects of forest fire and how to tackle
it. They sought the cooperation of people to tackle fire properly.
Fire officials of Khaprakhol demonstrated as to how to extinguish
fire.
VSS members stressed on better cooperation from forest officials,
re-organisation of VSS in some places, more publicity on how to tackle forest
fire in village area and involvement of local youths. So far 126 forest
fire incidents have been reported in Balangir district, said forest
sources.
