DECLARE KANTABANJI CONSTITUENCY DROUGHT-HIT’
Friday, 02 September 2016 | PNS | BALANGIR | in Bhubaneswar
Congress members led by former PCC president Sarat Pattanyak, former Kantabanji MLA Santosh Singh Saluja, senior leader Radhakanta Panda and Balangir District Congress Committee president Bhagaban Bagarti on Thursday staged a demonstration before the district Collectorate here demanding declaration of 19 gram panchats of Tureikela block, 22 GPs of Bongomunda, 18 GPs of Muriabahal, 16 wards of Kantabanji NAC as total drought-affected on the basis of eye estimation.
“We demand these blocks in the Kantabanji Assembly constituency be immediately declared as drought-affected under Section 28 of the Relief Code. Moreover, farmers of the district have so far not received their crop insurance compensation. The crop insurance premium must be given before Nuankahi,” said Saluja addressing the party workers before the Collectorate.
Moreover, the remaining 2,289 quintals of PDS rice under the APL, BPL, PLO and AAY schemes in seven GPs in Tueikela block and Jharial GP in Bongomunda be provided at the earliest, Saluja demanded further.
The case registered against women and poor ineligible beneficiaries under the NFSA scheme must be withdrawn immediately and steps be taken for proper identification of eligible beneficiaries, Saluja said further.
Sarat Pattanayak criticised the Naveen Patnaik Government and the BJP Government at the Centre for curtailing various anti-poverty schemes started during the Congress regime for this region.
The other senior Congress leaders also criticised the State Government for the continuing backwardness of the region.
Later, the leaders submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister through the district Collector.
