The farmers of Badtelenpali, Duanpali and Uchbahal in Chudapali and Khuntpali GPs of Balangir block have suffered a setback as their Rabi paddy crop failed to bear fruits, thereby further shaking them economically.
Samajwadi Party Balangir president Arun Mishra said that the drought- resistant and high-yielding Sahavagi seed was supplied to the farmers of eastern India under the Brining Green Revolution. The farmers took the seeds from the Agriculture Department. Now, they allege to have been cheated with substandard seeds. Mishra demanded compensation from the suppliers for the irreparable damage caused to the farmers.
Deputy Director of Agriculture Manoranjan Mallick denied the allegation of distributing substandard seed to the farmers and said that recently he had sent a team of agricultural officials led by a Krishi Vigyan Kendra scientist to probe into the matter and found out that shortage of water was responsible for such condition of the crops in the area
