B’NGIR DON TIMAN’S HOUSE ON ENCROACHED LAND RAZED Sunday, 08 May 2016 | pns | BALANGIR | in Bhubaneswar 1 2 3 4 5 0
The administration on Saturday began demolition of a building illegally constructed by dreaded criminal Srikant Kumbhar alias TimanTiman on Government land of about two acre at Larkipalli here amid heavy police deployment.
The demolition drive was started in the presence of a magistrate and municipality officials, for which six platoons of police force were deployed to avoid any untoward incident.
Notably, locals had on Friday opposed the administration’s move. However, they were later convinced and asked not to offer any resistance.
Hydraulic excavators were used to raze the double-storied building constructed on the encroached land.
Prior to this, according to Balangir Municipality Executive Officer Jayant Parida, a notice had been served to Timan, who is now in police custody, to vacate the building within 24 hours.
Notably, police had arrested Timan on April 24 on the charges of intimidation, assault, forgery, land grabbing, among others, registered at the Sadar and Town police stations here. Over ten cases are pending against him.
The notorious criminal and his aides were arrested after a raid conducted by a special police squad led by Balangir SP Deepak Kumar. The police had seized cash of `3.88 lakh, gold ornaments and some papers from Timan’s house.
Timan and his associates allegedly threatened people to sell their lands at prices lower than the market rates. Besides, he was also allegedly involved in tender-fixing.
Sources said that during police interrogation for five days, Timan had admitted to his land grabbing and selling business jointly with retired Sanskrit teacher Khirodra Mishra. However, attention is now mostly concentrated on the encroached Government land of the Krishi Vigyan Kendra.
