Irked over the unscheduled power cuts, residents of Balangir town staged a dharna in front of the Wesco Executive Engineer’s office here on Friday.
Protesting against the power disruption and low voltage in the town, members of the Balangir Action Committee led by its president Gopalji Panigrahi, Santosh Pradhan and Aaam Admi Party Balangir unit president Ajaya Das sat in dharna. Similarly, a group of women led by Pankajini Panda also staged a dharna before the Superintending Engineer’s office.
Shouting slogans against the Energy Department, the agitators alleged that there have been such power cuts for last few days and the Wesco authorities have failed to solve the issue.
Explaining the power situation on Thursday, Wesco Balangir Superintending Engineer Ashis Patjoshi had said there was a problem in the OPTCL.
“Hence, we are forced to go in for loadshedding. We don’t resort to unscheduled to power cuts. We are striving to ensure better electricity supply in the town in the forthcoming Durga Puja,” said Patjoshi.
